We got our most recent shipment today.
And unlike other shipments where Larry or Larry and I took ALL DAY to clear customs, get to the warehouse, get it released from the warehouse, get it in a truck, get it home and unloaded...
And at the of the day we were covered in Third World grime and Warehouse dirt dust grease...
And we've been working our way up the import world slowly- the last time getting a rental truck and pallets and pallet jack... but still doing the manual labor ourselves
This week we had our customs broker take care of all the paper work the customs forms, bonds, inspection, moving the stuff from the dock to the homeland security inspection, back to the warehouse, pier pass fee, clean truck fee... All I had to do is answer the phone and approve the charges we had no control over, anyway. And he arranged for delivery (to a friend's garage since our garage and storage trailer are already pretty full). And I know- We really need to work on getting our inventory reduced a bit more. I have but now it's sorta organized and to load them both back to the ceiling is going to destroy my organization.. and hey.. they offered for us to use their garage. We'll get the stuff out of there in the next few weeks when we have time to do it. At our leisure- not worrying about the HOA complaining about a truck or trailer on the street, not worrying about getting the rental truck back in time.. and frankly some of the stuff we have coming out of our ears can stay there for a while until I come up with a way to sell it and fast.
And that friend had some starving college students willing to unload the truck for money when I asked him if he had any "strapping young friends who needed a few hours of work" Plan B was to pick up some day laborers from the streets that they line looking for work for a few days. (last resort, since I can see myself getting arrested for hiring an illegal alien that way)
So.. I all I had today was write a few checks and hand the college students some cash.
The stuff was unloaded and stacked in the garage in 30 minutes or so and I didn't get dirty or really lift a finger.
I feel like royalty. I could get used to this.
