A day at the beach

For the Family Practice Picnic.

And since it is the Navy, it was not optional for us to go... so we went.

It was HOT. Apparently God was not informed that it is supposed to be 68 degrees and sunny all the time. It was over 90 at the beach. And the way the land is here, as soon as you go inland, it gets HOT HOT HOT. So.. we went inland 20 miles and it was 117 degrees. (or so said the car thermometer)

And I now understand why people here surf. There are serious waves here. I'm not interested in it at all, but it sure looks cool. (sorry picture didn't come out, but I'm sure we'll be back at the beach later to get others)

And there is this stuff here called "marine layer"

THAT is essentially thick dense fog/cloud that comes in from the water. It is seriously eerie. Literally like driving in a cloud. But without the rain. I now understand that song "oh I wish it would rain" It's been in my head for a week now :-)

AND (this is a geography lesson) there are mountains here that look like these rocks are about to roll down the hill. BIG ones. I'm thinking a little earthquake and those things'll be rolling.

This was from a little bit inland (the 117 degree day, soo, but NO way I was rolling down a window to take a picture)

hey gina!
loved seeing your pics! i have the ones with the bumpy mountain from our trips down there! it was funny to see it in someone else's archives. i had to laugh at the fact that you were "volun-told" to go to the picnic. lol!
